The potential setback comes amid reports [Independent] that Egypt Under-23s boss Shawky Gharib has claimed the Reds’ talisman will be in the Pharaohs upcoming squad for the summer Olympics.

The 2020 games will be staged in Tokyo, with the men’s competition starting on July 23 and the gold medal match set to be contested on August 8 with the opening day of the Premier League scheduled on the same day as the final.

This comes on top of the news not long ago that Liverpool trio Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita will all miss a sustained period next season due to Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon scheduled to commence in January 2021.

Salah, 27, is the club’s top-scorer this with 18 goals and nine assists in 33 appearances this season. The Ballon d’Or nominee is currently on course to claim his first Premier League title with Liverpool currently 22 points clear at the top of the table.

Both Salah and Mane have played a part in 234 goals since their respected moves to Merseyside which could prompt Klopp to consider some attacking reinforcements with the German manager set to lose both of his main attackers for a sustained period of time next season.

The former Chelsea forward has been the club’s top-scorer in each of his three seasons at the club since his £34m [BBC Sport] move from Roma in 2017.

A potential silver lining for Liverpool is that Salah has reportedly not been involved in talks as of yet, meaning he himself will have to decide on whether to take part in the tournament in Tokyo or instead opt to feature for the Reds in pre-season.

Following the news regarding Salah’s potential absence, many Liverpool supporters have called for Klopp to consider bringing in some attacking additions in the summer window.
