The German giants are still searching for a natural successor for Robert Lewandowski – who turns 32 at the end of the season. Bayern will now turn their focus to the Reds’ irreplaceable No.9 alongside Manchester City’s Leroy Sane to improve their attacking firepower.

Firmino, 28, is wanted in order to come in and initially play alongside the free-scoring Lewandowski while providing an outlet for Sane who is reportedly set to join the Bundesliga champions for a club-record fee.

It is reported Bayern are willing to immediately test Liverpool’s resolve by placing £75m on the table. However, the Brazil international is currently tied down at Anfield until 2022 having committed himself to a new deal last season.

The Premier League leaders signed Firmino from Hoffenheim for £29m [BBC Sport] in June 2015, after he caught the eye with a string of impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

Firmino is enjoying another fine season in the English top-flight with the Brazilian on course to claim his first Premier League triumph. Once again an ever-present figure for Jurgen Klopp’s European champion, Firmino has clocked up 36 appearances this season scoring an impressive 10 goals and boasting 12 assists.

Following the report, many Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter to express their opinion whether a deal could be struck in the summer window.

Here is a look at how many fans reacted to the sceptical summer rumour.
