Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lauded his goalkeeper Alisson Becker following the Reds’ 4-0 victory against Southampton.
The German manager was full of praise for his incomparable shot-stopper who recorded his ninth clean sheet of the season.
Alisson made a number of vital saves – particularly in the first-half – to keep proceedings at bay before Liverpool turned up the heat in the second period to run rampant. It was a particularly rare busy afternoon for the former Roma star who had to deal with 17 shots from the visitors -four of which were on target, according to BBC Sport.
Klopp was quick to praise the FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year following Liverpool’s 24th victory of the season. Alisson has been paramount to the Reds’ ridiculous run of form that has seen them earn 100 points from a possible 102 since March.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “Today, for example, Southampton had absolutely too many shots and finishes, but what Ali is doing with these finishes, I have no clue how he is doing it.
“It looks always at the end like it was not a good finish, but I think the finishes were pretty good, just Ali was there. That is really special.”
What RTK has to say
Remarkably, the Brazilian No.1 is now leading the way – alongside Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson – in terms of clean sheets this season. The achievement is more impressive considering he has missed a considerable amount of the 2019/20 season.
He started Liverpool’s opener against Norwich City but went off injured after just 39 minutes ruling him out for 13 weeks.
Alisson didn’t actually start and finish a Premier League game until October 20th against Manchester United at Old Trafford. So despite his rivals having a seven-game headstart, the Ballon d’Or nominee is now the firm favourite to retain the Golden Glove.
Alisson won the award last season in his debut Premier League campaign. That took 21 clean sheets, one ahead of his Brazilian compatriot and Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.
