Liverpool’s U23s secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday night courtesy of a dramatic comeback against Wolves that culminated in a stunning Harvey Elliott equaliser – and many Reds supporters have reacted on Twitter.
Another Joe Hardy goal and a memorable bicycle kick from Harvey Elliott ensured the young Reds secured the point they needed to top a group which had also included Paris Saint-Germain and Athletic Club.
Elliott, 16, has been on the peripheral of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team this season with the former Fulham winger already clocking up six appearances for the European champions.
The England U17 international became the youngest ever Premier League debutant last season for the Cottagers before moving to Anfield last summer. Elliott recently made his league debut for the Reds during a 2-0 victory at home to Sheffield United.
After trailing 2-0 just five minutes into the second half at Molineux, Neil Critchley’s team dominated the rest of the match and deservedly took their place in the last eight. January recruit Hardy added another strike to his glowing CV, after converting from a Liam Millar cross – that’s Hardy’s third since arriving from Brentford earlier this month.
The inevitable equaliser came just 10 minutes after falling behind. Elliott clawed the young Reds back from the brink with a very special goal. Jake Cain’s corner from the right saw the forward leap and deliver a memorable bicycle kick which had the crowd of almost 4,400 gasping.
Following the match, many Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to showcase their bemusement at such an audacious effort from the Reds youngster – and there were one or two exciting predictions regarding Elliott’s future.
