Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has remarkably been snubbed by Jamie Redknapp in his Daily Mail Team of the Week despite the Englishman’s man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United on Sunday.
Henderson, 29 produced another flawless performance against the Red Devils as Liverpool increased their Premier League stronghold to 16 points (still with a game-in-hand) at the weekend.
The European champions have recorded 64 points from a possible 66 so far this season and have dropped just two points since March. Jurgen Klopp’s side are also unbeaten in their previous 39 league matches and are off the back of 13 consecutive league victories.
Liverpool’s irreplaceable skipper epitomises the club’s relentless pursuit for perfection. The man who finally was able to inspire the club to their first trophy in seven years has since developed a trademark shuffle of the feet before raising silverware to the heavens.
Henderson became the first-ever English club-captain to win the continental treble as Liverpool secured the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup over the course of 2019.
The England international was recently touted by former Hull City midfielder David Meyler to be announced as the ‘PFA Player of the Year’ following his finest campaign so far in Liverpool colours.

Henderson set the tone during Liverpool’s 21st league win of the season against United alongside his impressive array of long-range passes. The Reds skipper completed won seven of his eight ground duels, won five of his six tackles as well as two of his three aerial duels.
However, this wasn’t enough to merit a spot in Redknapp’s TOTW as the former Liverpool midfielder opted instead for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Crystal Palace’s James McCarthy and Sheffield United’s John Fleck to complete his midfield triumvirate.
What RTK has to say
It’s quite astonishing to believe that Henderson is absent from Redknapp’s TOTW following another complete performance for Klopp’s champions-elect from the Champions League-winning captain.
Henderson was an immovable force in Klopp’s midfield and was unlucky not to see his piledriver beat David de Gea who made an emphatic save to tip the midfielder’s effort onto the post.
The former Sunderland midfielder is finally being recognised outside of Merseyside as the outstanding player Liverpool supporters have raved about for so long. The most selfless player in Klopp’s armoury and the man who will reduce Kopites to tears once he gets his hands on that Premier League trophy.
