According to ESPN, Paris Saint Germain are confident of tying Kylian Mbappe down to a new lucrative contract in a desperate attempt to keep him at the club for another year amid reports that Real Madrid and Liverpool are interested in luring the World Cup-winning forward away from France.
Mbappe, 21, has been offered a new-and-improved deal despite his current contract not expiring until 2022. ESPN have reported that the PSG forward has an offer already on the table.
The Frenchman is yet to make a long-term decision over his future with his current club accepting the reality he will likely one day leave, however, the Ligue 1 champions are desperate to keep Mbappe in his home country for at least another year.
Reports claim that Mbappe’s contract extension would put him on level terms financially to £200 million signing Neymar. PSG are determined to win the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history having never made it beyond the quarter-final stages of the competition.
Mbappe already has 81 goals in 109 matches for Les Parisiens and the Ballon d’Or nominee has taken his football to another level this season after firing 21 goals in 22 matches whilst also registering 11 assists.
The report states that Real Madrid will look to tempt Mbappe to La Liga next summer with European champions Liverpool also keeping tabs on the forward.
Jurgen Klopp’s side recently secured a long-term partnership with Nike which takes effect this summer. This has fueled the belief that it could indeed be Liverpool to sign one of the US sportswear company’s most high-profile sponsored athletes.
However, the FIFA Coach of the Year has played down any links to Mbappe after previously stating: “Buying this calibre of player is difficult. I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG.”
“I don’t see any club, that is how it is – and we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.
“Okay, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is.
“But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”
What RTK has to say
Mbappe was recently labelled as the most valuable player in world football according to CIES Football Observatory ahead of Reds duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as well as former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling.
The French international will likely be the long-term successor to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in dominating individual accolades for years to come.
Liverpool’s interest in Mbappe could be inflated after learning that they will be without three of their key players next season (Salah, Mane and Naby Keita) following AFCON’s decision to bring the tournament forward to January 2021
