According to an exclusive report from 90min, Liverpool are amongst three clubs interested in Wolves forward Adama Traore.
The former Barcelona prospect is one of the standout names surrounding transfer speculation for the January window. Wolves are in a significant position of strength with the team currently just four points off of the top four and having recently qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Traore, 23, has made 20 league appearances for the Midland’s outfit this season – he has scored four goals and has registered four assists. According to the report, his current club will not be considering any moves for the Spaniard for anything less than £70 million.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo recently stated that under no circumstances Traore will be sold in the January transfer window.
However, the reason for the reported interest from European champions Liverpool has been due to Traore’s performances against current Premier League holders Manchester City.
The Spanish international has scored a third of his league goals this campaign against Pep Guardiola’s side and was the undoing of the English domestic treble holders for 2019 on both occasions.
Traore bagged an impressive brace in a 2- 0 win against the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium back in October after Wolves became the first team to leave the home of the league champions victorious since Crystal Palace in December 2018.
The Wolves speedster then followed that up with a MOTM performance against City in the reverse fixture in December where Traore scored and then assisted Raul Jimenez’s equaliser to inspire Wolves to a 3-2 victory – having trailed by two goals after the hour mark.
Traore seriously struggled during his inaugural season in the top-flight following an £18 million from Middlesborough in the summer of 2018. The former Aston Villa star only made seven league starts last campaign but since the end of September has made 15 consecutive starts – the only match he has not featured from the off since then was during a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool just over a week ago.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool will have masses of cash to spend following a Champions League-winning campaign last season and with the team currently on course for a first league title in 30 years.
Jurgen Klopp hasn’t made a big-money signing since Alisson Becker joined the club in 2018. The Reds will likely be planning for the future with their irreplaceable trio Mohamed Salah (27), Sadio Mane (27) and Roberto Firmino all at similar ages.
Traore fits the bill of a player who could make that next step likewise to that of Mane who was in a similar position to the Wolves forward during his time with Southampton.
Having long since been seen as one of the most exciting propositions in the Premier League, Traore’s combination of electrifying pace, dribbling skills and strength has finally seen end product added to his game.
At only 23 years of age, Liverpool should certainly be monitoring Traore’s progress until the end of the season with a January move appearing increasingly unlikely.
