It’s true what they say that nothing is won at Christmas. Liverpool will know that notion all too well having sat top of the Christmas tree of four separate occasions only to fall short of the league title each and every time.

However, it’s fair to say that it feels a little bit different this time around with Jurgen Klopp’s world-conquering squad dominating on all fronts this season.

The European/ world champions are currently 10 points clear at the Premier League summit having played two games less than all of their title rivals. Liverpool are currently on a run of 36 league matches unbeaten and will have gone a whole calendar year without defeat should they get the better of Sheffield United on Thursday.

Considering Klopp’s team are the current Champions League holders, runaway Premier League league leaders and the champions of the world it is to no surprise that the bulk of Liverpool’s team have been included in Goal’s Team of the Year so far with five of the starting XI made up of Reds players.

The back four is made up of three Liverpool defenders. Unsurprisingly every one of these players were also part of the Premier League’s official Team of the Season for 2018/19 as Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold all continue to dazzle following a record-breaking year that saw three trophies brought back to Anfield.

Liverpool are currently off the back of four consecutive clean sheets this season with the best defence record currently in the league. On top of that, their full-back duo of Robertson (7) and Alexander-Arnold (12) have a combined assist tally of 19 this season making them the deadliest pairing in Europe’s top-five leagues.

Meanwhile, club-captain Jordan Henderson has been included in the team following a spectacular start to the 2019/20 season.

The Reds’ Champions League-winning skipper usually goes under the radar in Klopp’s oiled machine of a team but Henderson has been an irreplaceable figure in Klopp’s midfield starting 16 of Liverpool’s 20 league matches this campaign – he has scored one goal and registered two assists during that time.

Finishing off Liverpool’s representatives in the Team of the Season awards is none other than Sadio Mane. The Senegalese ace is arguably the best candidate to claim the Premier League Player of the Season award following yet another resounding campaign in a Reds shirt.

Mane, 27, has started all but three of Liverpool’s league games this season. The former Southampton forward has 10 league goals whilst also boasting eight assists in that period. He has emerged as the man for the big occasions scoring crucial goals against Manchester City, Leicester and Wolves.

The former RB Salzburg star has been at his brilliant best all season long and has held his level more consistently this season than either of his strike partners, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
