Thierry Henry compares Liverpool to 'invicibles'

Thierry Henry has made a big statement regarding the title race and Liverpool. The World Cup winner believes it isn’t a question of whether Liverpool will win the league but instead whether the runaway league leaders can remain unbeaten.

The European champions recorded their 17th league win of the season to move 13 points clear of title rivals Leicester City. Jurgen Klopp’s team have already registered 52 points from a possible 54 and are the only remaining unbeaten team in the country.

Liverpool have only dropped two points since March and have only lost one of their previous 56 league matches. Only Manchester United have taken points off of Liverpool this season following a 1-1 stalemate back in October.

Henry was part of the only team to ever go a full season without defeat back in 2003/04. The Invincibles are highly regarded as one of the greatest Premier League sides of all time and the legendary former Arsenal striker believes their unbeaten record could be under serious threat.

Speaking in the pre-match build-up on Amazon Prime, Henry said: “It’s for me a statement tonight. If they come here and win it, and win it well, it will be a matter of when, not if, they are going to win it [the Premier League].

“I think they’re going to win it.

“And I’m going to push it further, not because we’ve done it with Arsenal but because it’s a matter for me if they’re going to stay unbeaten.

“I think that team can stay unbeaten, and it will be who’s going to beat them first, because I think they will win the league.

“It’s not a big statement because they’re above everybody this year, and they can make a statement tonight.

What RTK has to say

Henry’s praise towards Liverpool epitomises just how far the Reds have come during the Klopp era. Liverpool have emerged as one of the finest teams in world football and have discovered a system that is appearing impossible to crack.

Liverpool are seven days away from going a whole calendar year unbeaten after crushing the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.

Trent Alexander-Arnold produced a man-of-the-match performance to register two assists and his second league goal of the season. James Milner came off the bench to score with his first touch whilst Roberto Firmino added to his World Cup heroics by grabbing a brace – the second of which was the 500th goal the Klopp era.
