Liverpool defender turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City remain favourites to retain the Premier League title.
City pipped the Reds to the Premier League by a single point last season. The Citizens are now in search of a third consecutive league title win
A perfect Liverpool start has not been enough to persuade Carragher that the league title will be heading to Merseyside this season.
The Liverpool legend took part in Wednesday night’s testimonial for former City captain Vincent Kompany at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking post match Carragher told the Daily Mirror. “I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season.
“So, I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable.”
Carragher’s comments simply reflect the reality of the situation. Manchester City are betting favourites. Liverpool are underdogs, a role they thrive in.
After a best ever points haul last season, and another Champions League trophy, Liverpool fans are buoyed by the prospect of ending their league title drought.
Jamie Carragher seems intent on playing down title talk, and rightly so, as the season has just begun.
Liverpool have much work to do if they want to upset City to claim the Premier League title.
