Jurgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com that Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri have trained once already and will travel with the Reds to Evian this week.
The Reds lost 3-0 to Napoli at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Sunday and fans are desperate to see several players return to action to aid the side as they’ve struggled this summer.
Keita is a key member of the starting XI when fit and his return to full fitness cannot come quickly enough as the start of the new Premier League season draws ominously close.
“Shaqiri and Keita as well, they already trained one session with us,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Napoli.
“They are not here but they will come tomorrow because they train today. They will come tomorrow and should hopefully be a step further.
“Hopefully they can play a couple of minutes on Wednesday; five of six [aside from Sadio Mane] back, which is a good number.”
Liverpool’s biggest obstacle this season will be the world expecting them to not just win the Champions League again but to go one better and add the Premier League to their trophy cabinet as well.
The Reds had something of a free pass last season as they weren’t expected to achieve 97 points in the league or push Manchester City as far as they did and they weren’t expected to go all the way to another Champions League final let alone win it.
This season will be tough as Liverpool’s rivals have all strengthened in the transfer market but hopefully, Klopp’s faith in his squad pays off and he’s rewarded with a couple more winners’ medals.
