Two moments that prove Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the goal-scoring midfielder Liverpool need

Liverpool need more goals from midfield and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the comeback trail, he might be the perfect man for the job.

The former Arsenal midfielder is almost fully fit following the awful ACL injury he sustained in April last year and supporters are excited to see him back in action.

With the Premier League season starting in exactly two weeks, Chamberlain is getting closer and closer to making his first start in 15 months and he could be exactly what the Reds have been missing.

Naby Keita is arguably the better player and has a higher ceiling on his potential but his silky dribbling and elusive style of play makes him an altogether different kind of player to Chamberlain.

The Englishman is all action and a little more direct than his Guinean teammate but it’s his ability to score goals from long range like his idol Steven Gerrard that make him the ideal midfielder for Liverpool right now.

The goals he scored against Manchester City in the Premier League and the Champions League in 2017/18 are perfect examples of what the Reds need from Chamberlain this season.

There were several occasions last season where Liverpool were drawing games against the likes of Leicester, Manchester United and Everton where the Anfield outfit could have a bolt from the blue or rather, a strike from midfield.

There aren’t many players in Liverpool side that are willing to take speculative efforts from long range, with Mohamed Salah’s stunner against Chelsea one of the few goals the Reds scored from distance.

It’s the reason why fans want to see Philippe Coutinho or someone of his ilk join the club but Chamberlain can be that player for Liverpool this season.
