Recent comments from Jordan Henderson show that he is a fantastic captain and one that Liverpool deserve even if he’s not the one they wanted.
Supporters always want a skipper that will grab a game by the scruff of the neck by scoring an incredible goal and is always at an unbelievable level in everything he does.
Steven Gerrard spoiled Liverpool fans and after he left the club, it’s fair that many weren’t satisfied by Jordan Henderson being named the new captain but he’s grown into the role and is now a fantastic leader.
He reflected to Liverpoolfc.com about that night in Madrid: “That night was not about me lifting the trophy.
“I felt me, Millie and the gaffer should have lifted it together. I asked Millie and the gaffer because I felt as though Millie is a big part of the squad.
“And what we did that night wouldn’t have been possible without the manager, and I felt as though he deserved to do that. But he said no.”
It seems typical of Henderson to make such an unbelievable gesture and even though he’s not the best player in the side or even the best midfielder at the club, he’s certainly deserving of the captain’s armband as he continues to prove with each passing season.
If he avoids injury, Henderson will make his 300th Liverpool appearance this season and that speaks volumes about his quality as there aren’t a lot of players that can say they’ve reached that milestone before.
While he might not be the captain that Liverpool fans wanted, he’s the one we’ve got and the one we deserve and need. His influence in the dressing room is huge and will be crucial in any silverware won this season.
