Liverpool fans’ imagination has been supercharged as Jurgen Klopp was spotted hugging Bruno Fernandes after the Reds drew 2-2 with Sporting Lisbon in New York.

The Merseysiders would have won had Simon Mignolet not allowed the ball to bounce out of his arms and into the back of the net à la Loris Karius.

The first goal came after Bruno Fernandes took a hopeful shot from 30 yards which would have been easily handled by Alisson Becker but Mignolet made a meal of it.

The Portuguese midfielder is well-known for shooting from ridiculous ranges and angles much like how Philippe Coutinho used to when he was a Liverpool player.

Fans have reacted on Twitter as Klopp was pictured and filmed hugging Bruno Fernandes after the game.

Here is the Twitter reaction:

While the reality is probably that Klopp made a joke about Fernandes scoring against his side, it’s always way more fun to imagine there is a more exciting truth with fans all too ready to believe that the German was tapping up the reported Liverpool target ahead of a transfer to Anfield.

Sporting Lisbon chief Frederico Varandas told RTP that Fernandes will only leave the club for more than £56m and while that is a lot of money, the 24-year-old is worth every penny as he is on the verge of breaking into the world-class bracket.

Time is running out for Klopp to make signings this summer but if he were to get just one over the line it would be amazing to see Fernandes join the club.
