Barcelona are reportedly closing in on a €26million (£23.2m) deal to sign Junior Firpo from Real Betis but Liverpool are making a big mistake by not signing him.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Catalonians have all but wrapped up a deal to sign Firpo this summer.
The left-back won the U21 European Championship with Spain last month and is one of the most exciting talents in La Liga and one that the Reds are apparently sleeping on.
Initially, it was reported by Sport that Liverpool were expected to pay €50m (£44.6m) to sign Firpo but Barcelona appear to have snatched him from Betis’ clutches for just €26m (£23.2m).
Not only do Liverpool need a left-back to replace Alberto Moreno who left the club following the expiry of his contract but Firpo is the perfect replacement as he promises so much for the future.
Andy Robertson might bar his progress to becoming a starter under Klopp, in two or three seasons, Firpo would have presented major selection issues as he will be one of the best left-backs in Europe in just a few short years.
Then you have the amazing £23.2m price that Barcelona appear to have negotiated to sign Firpo.
At that price, the Spaniard is a steal and even though Liverpool signed Robbo for just £8m in 2017, that’s an outlier and the Reds can hardly to unearth gems for such low fees all the time.
If Barcelona are indeed close to signing Firpo, it will be a huge mistake on Liverpool’s part to allow the La Liga champions given how high the ceiling on his potential is.
