Liverpool might not be able to call on Sadio Mane when they face Norwich City but could have him when they face Chelsea a week later.
The former Southampton forward made it all the way to the final of the AFCON in Egypt and is now enjoying a three-week break before he will return to Melwood.
The official Liverpool website indicates that the Senegal attacker will rejoin the Reds on August 5th, the day following the FA Community Clash with Manchester City at Wembley.
Mane scored 22 Premier League goals last season and was named the joint-highest scorer in the division alongside fellow African icons Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
While he is almost certain to miss the start of the Premier League on the 9th of August, Mane could be in contention to start against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup at Vodafone Park in Istanbul.
It might be better to not risk him given that the Super Cup isn’t as important as Premier League or the Champions League but after a 13-month season, Mane won’t lose too much sharpness.
Besides, Mane has a tendency to start Premier League seasons with Liverpool like a house on fire, scoring on the opening day against Arsenal in 2016, against Watford in 2017 and twice against West Ham in 2018.
It would likely be a safe bet to gamble that the 27-year-old will score on his first Premier League appearance this season too.
