Steve Nicol has urged his former side to sign Fulham’s highly-rated Ryan Sessegnon to provide cover for Andy Robertson.
The 19-year-old is one of England’s most exciting prospects and whoever signs him will have a fantastic player on their hands.
Able to play anywhere up and down the left flank, Sessegnon is very versatile and has been tipped to join the Reds by former Liverpool man Steve Nicol.
He told ESPN: “Still a teenager. Well he wouldn’t be starting, he’s pushing. He’s there to push and he’s there to make the eleven that start better.
“He’s still a teenager, still has a lot to learn but, what, in two or three years time, he’s pushing Robertson or anybody else down that left-hand side.”
While Sessegnon will be a top player in a few years’ time, he’s not what the Reds need and wouldn’t currently offer them more than Alberto Moreno was able to before he left.
The Spaniard is fantastic on the ball going forward but is erratic and hasty in making important decisions in dangerous situations at the back which cost Liverpool dearly at times.
Sessegnon is going to be better than Moreno in an attacking sense but there has been little evidence to suggest that the Fulham left-back is strong in defensive situations which is what Liverpool need a backup to Robertson to be.
Spurs have long since been linked with a move for Sessegnon and given he would only need to complete a short trip across London to join them, it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense.
Fulham value the exciting young left-back at around £45million, as per the Daily Mail, but reports this summer have suggested that Junior Firpo is available for around the same fee, Sport claims, and he’d be a better, more reliable fit.
