Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s official website that he expects to have Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino back in time for their trip to Evian.
The Reds are currently on their annual pre-season tour, with the USA this summer’s destination but following their return to Melwood at the end of the month, they will jet off to Evian for a few days.
The scenic training camp in South-Eastern France will give Klopp the chance to fine-tune his side ahead of the start of the highly anticipated 2019/20 season.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “Mo and the Brazilians will come for Evian. It means then we have nearly a week until City [in the Community Shield], a strong 12 days until Norwich and then 15 or 16 days until Chelsea [in the Super Cup].
“We have to see. The good thing is, when you have a short break you don’t lose a lot. They needed three weeks and so we told them [to take it], but they train now again already.
“I would have preferred it if they had come back after a week, but that would make absolutely no sense! So, [they have] these three weeks and then we will have them here for pre-season.”
Liverpool are expected to be at the very top of the Premier League once again this season after they finished on 97 points and won the Champions League last season.
Having Firmino, Alisson and Salah back in time for the training camp in Evian is a huge boost as it means three of Klopp’s first-choice starters will be fit in time for the FA Community Shield showdown with Manchester City at Wembley on the 4th of August.
It might not be the most glamorous of cup tournaments but City are sure to provide an intensity that can help Liverpool prepare for their first game of the season which is exactly what pre-season is all about.
Not to mention that winning it will boost the lads’ confidence heading into the Premier League opener against Norwich City.
