Adam Lallana has bizarrely been given another chance at Liverpool by Jurgen Klopp despite his age and lack of proof that he can become a success. But Steve Nicol thinks this should be the end of the road for the midfielder.
Nicol told ESPN FC: “I think it’s pretty clear the odd man out in that lot is Lallana. At his best, he can give you a little sparkle.
“Unfortunately, in his time at Liverpool, he’s not really been at his best very often. So right now, for me, he is the one completely on the out.”
While Nicol’s view that Origi should not have been handed a new contract by Jurgen Klopp was simply awful, it’s difficult to argue against him regarding Lallana.
The former Saints skipper is now 31 and is simply not good enough to be given a starting role, nor does he offer a game-changing dynamic from the bench.
Frankly, he’s wasting valuable money in terms of wages and is taking up a spot in the squad that the likes of Harry Wilson would love to be handed and are far more deserving.
The Welshman was amazing on loan for Derby County last season and scored 21 goals for the Championship side and now deserves a chance at Liverpool.
Lallana has had a tough time with injuries over the last few years and while it’s easy to understand why Klopp wants to be sympathetic with him, he’s not good enough for a side that just won the UEFA Champions League.
