This week Mucho Deporte claimed that Liverpool are ready to spend £26.9m to sign Junior Firpo from Real Betis to provide squad depth at left back.
The Spaniard is reportedly a prime target for Jurgen Klopp and would be a strong option for the German to turn to should Andy Robertson suffer an injury or get suspended.
He helped his country win the UEFA U21 European Championship and is as much of a talent for the future as he can be relied upon by Klopp at the moment.
While he is defensively strong and more than reliable at the back, Firpo is also dangerous in attacking scenarios.
In fact, he would also provide Klopp with an unorthodox option in attack should Sadio Mane need resting at some point this season.
He’s a strong runner in possession as his pace and trickery on the ball make him a nuisance for opposition defenders.
His most valuable asset as a player going forward is his ability to aim pinpoint crosses at his teammates inside the box even when the 18-yard area is packed full of defenders.
It’s a talent that the likes of Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have exploited to become the Premier League’s highest assisting defenders in the Premier League over the last 12 months.
If Liverpool do sign Junior Firpo, his attacking talent will make him very useful to Klopp.
