Liverpool's Ki-Jana Hoever shows quality against Tranmere

Ki-Jana Hoever looked exciting at right-back for Liverpool on Thursday as they romped to a 6-0 win over Tranmere Rovers and the 17-year-old could be a useful option for Klopp this season.

The Dutchman joined the club last year and is seen as the future of Dutch football and should follow in Matthijs de Ligt’s footsteps.

The £90,000 (Mirror) Liverpool paid Ajax to sign Hoever will be a massive bargain if he can kick on and become a top player for the Reds.

Hoever played at right-back for Liverpool against Tranmere and not only looked comfortable on the ball but also displayed intelligence in his decision making that is not natural for a 17-year-old.

Given that the Dutchman become the youngest ever Liverpool player to appear in the FA Cup after he played against Wolverhampton Wanderers last season it would be special to see him make his Premier League debut this season.

He might not be ready to start games regularly but a 15-minute cameo in a game that is already won would go a long way to aiding his inevitable development into a top player.

As the 2018/19 season showed the world, there is an incredible amount of untapped quality in the Dutch game and with Liverpool moving fast to sign Sepp van den Berg and already owning Virgil van Dijk, Georginio Wijnaldum and Hoever, the Reds are well established to capitalise on Holland’s ability to produce top talent.

There are still plenty of games to be played during pre-season and it’s up to Hoever to show that he can take his Liverpool career by the scruff of the neck.
