Liverpool have reportedly scouted Zenit St Petersburg’s Sardar Azmoun as he scored a brace against Lokomotiv during the Russian Super Cup.
According to Soviet Sport, Liverpool had scouts in attendance last weekend as Zenit St Petersburg succumbed to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian Super Cup.
Although his side lost 3-2, Azmoun impressed as he scored two goals and could have scored a hat-trick had his effort not looped dangerously over the crossbar.
While Azmoun has been linked with a move to Liverpool since he was first reported as being on the club’s radar, the “Iranian Messi” is not what the Reds need and would only find limited space on the bench behind Divock Origi.
The Belgian has proven to be a crucial member of the Liverpool squad and scored the telling goal in Madrid as he and his teammates etched their names into Champions League history as they won the club’s sixth European Cup with a win over Spurs in July.
The Belgian’s Anfield future is yet to be decided but supporters want him to stay beyond this summer and now that he is back from his holiday, a decision is expected soon.
Azmoun is a clever player that makes intelligent runs in behind defences but now is not the right time for him to move to Merseyside and if Klopp is going to sign a new attacker, he should be looking at a more high profile name.
Someone like Ousmane Dembele would offer more quality to the Reds as well as a variety of options across the front three.
