AC Milan are ready to accelerate their interest in Dejan Lovren as the Italians look to bolster their side, according to Calciomercato.
The Croatian joined the Reds in 2015 for £20million and has had a topsy-turvy career so far on Merseyside and if he leaves this summer, he will be able to depart on a high after winning the Champions League last season.
It’s not necessarily a move that would be beneficial for Jurgen Klopp as the 30-year-old is a very capable fourth choice centre back but with Sepp van den Berg joining the club this summer, his potential absence has been proactively covered.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are desperate to not go into the new season having neglected to bolster their ranks at the back and Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are big fans of Lovren.
The Italians are reportedly “ready to accelerate” their interest in the Croatian in the coming days. They claim that talks have been ongoing between the player and AC Milan for “some time” but the progress made has not been to the liking of the Rossoneri.
If true, it will be interesting to see how Michael Edwards handles this as it would be unusual for Liverpool to keep a player against his will given how much he has given to the club in recent years.
Lovren might not be everyone’s cup of tea but his dedication and loyalty are unquestionable.
Given his birthday last week, he is now on the wrong side of 30 and will be desperate to spend the remaining years of his career playing regularly as opposed to warming the bench for Virgil van Dijk and co.
If Liverpool and AC Milan can agree on a decent fee for Lovren, selling him this summer could be a very positive deal for FSG to sanction.
