Liverpool are set to miss out on highly rated Rangers forward Josh McPake as the youngster is set to sign a contract at Ibrox.
The Reds were interested in the 17-year-old along with AS Roma but he is now expected to sign a new contract, according to The Herald.
Steven Gerrard has an exciting young player in McPake with the Rangers U20 star set to recommit to the Scottish outfit.
Liverpool don’t necessarily need McPake urgently with Brewster gearing up for pre-season ahead of his debut campaign for the Reds.
Snapping at his heels is Gerrard’s cousin Bobby Duncan, who has been in sensational form for the youth teams since he moved to Liverpool from Manchester City.
While Klopp and his fellow Liverpool coaches will be disappointed to have missed out on McPake, they will be basking in their successful capture of Sepp van den Berg last week.
The Dutchman arrives as a first team member and will hopefully rise up through the pecking order and emulate Matthijs de Ligt’s unbelievable rise to stardom over the last year.
The 17-year-old centre back will get his chance in pre-season and will surely receive a few appearances in the domestic cup tournaments as Jurgen Klopp has historically used them to rotate his side for Premier League and European Cup games.
