Naby Keita suffered an injury while on international duty with at the AFCON tournament with Guinea, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The midfielder was ruled out of the Champions League final semi-final second leg and the final in Madrid due to the injury he picked up as a result of a dangerous scissor tackle from Ivan Rakitic.
At the time, Keita was beginning to show his true abilities before he was cruelly struck down.
Jurgen Klopp will be absolutely fuming with the Guinea Football Federation after the former RB Leipzig dynamo was rushed back from injury in time to play at the AFCON.
The Echo reports that Keita has suffered a thigh and shin injury and will not face Burundi in Guinea’s final game of the tournament after he was battered by the imposing midfielder that was selected to play for Nigeria on Wednesday.
Guinea manager Paul Put said recently: “Keita leaves [Liverpool] after training in the morning and arrives Monday [evening].
“I put a lot of pressure on Liverpool to [send him] as soon as possible. In the end, I said that if Naby does not come now, it will be difficult to put [him on] the list for AFCON.”
The full extent of Keita’s injury is still to be determined but the hope for the Reds is that it’s a minor issue and won’t prevent him from returning to pre-season after he takes his holiday.
The 24-year-old has the potential to become one of the best players in the world but needs to move past the injury struggles he has faced over the last few months.
