Jimmy Carter thinks Liverpool should move for James Maddison

Former Liverpool player Jimmy Carter told LoveSport Radio that he thinks the Reds should make a move for James Maddison.

The Reds have only signed one player so far this summer, making Sepp van den Berg their first purchase of the window, but fans want a marquee signing.

Leicester City’s James Maddison would fit the bill as his incredible debut season in the Premier League has shown fans that he will one day be one of the best players in England’s top flight.

“James Maddison seems like a perfect fit for Liverpool,” Carter told LoveSport Radio. “For me if Liverpool were to get him, they’re talking about £70-75million.

“I would pay £100m to get James Maddison into the midfield at Liverpool, and he would be an instant success. He would be a remarkable player and acquisition for Liverpool FC.

“I would love to see James Maddison slot into that midfield. Because what you’ve got is the likes of Fabinho, Henderson who are more holding midfield players, not really renowned for their creativity – even though Henderson is showing more creativity now than he has before.”

In his first season in the Premier League, Maddison scored and assisted 14 goals and showed his great ability in set-piece situations, scoring four goals from dead ball scenarios.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold is the Reds’ resident free kick taker, Klopp would do well in adding a hugely talented English midfielder to his ranks even if it cost anywhere near £75m.

Of course, there is huge competition in central midfielder but with his talent, he would definitely find himself starting more often than not.
