Liverpool could be on the brink of their first summer signing, according to Dutch newspaper De Stentor, by recruiting PEC Zwolle’s Sepp van den Berg.
One thing that the last 12 months has shown is that Dutch football is in a brilliant place at the moment.
Ajax Amsterdam’s triumphs in the Champions League brought deserved attention to the Dutch game and the country is producing exciting talent at a rapid rate.
Liverpool already have Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Winaldum in their ranks and have been linked with the likes of de Ligt, Depay, van de Beek and many more.
What’s more, Ki-Jana Hoever is breaking through the youth ranks and is one of the club’s most exciting prospects at both Academy and first team level.
Dutch newspaper De Stentor claims that Liverpool are set to sign Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle for between £1.34m and £1.8m.
Normally, a player like van den Berg would arrive without too much fuss but the 17-year-old has already made 16 appearances in Eredivisie and is said to be a fine ball playing centre back.
It seems unlikely that he will immediately be included in the first team setup but if he’s given a chance in pre-season and impresses, there’s every chance he is used in the domestic cups next season.
With Ki-Jana Hoever included, Liverpool might have the future Dutch national team centre-back pairing at the club.
