Liverpool are interested in signing Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud this summer, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The report claims that Sevilla have an agreement in principle with the player but are yet to extract a similar agreement with Rennes, with Monchi looking to do so soon.
Liverpool are among a large Premier League contingent that is tracking the 25-year-old.
While Bourigeaud is not a bad player, he is not a special midfielder and is unlikely to be a game changer for the Reds even if he was signed only as a squad option.
In fact, it’s difficult to understand why Liverpool need him, with Jurgen Klopp’s squad bordering on being overburdened with central midfielders.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to be fit for the start of the 2019/20 season, Liverpool will hardly be short on options in the middle of the park.
If Klopp is going to sign a midfielder, it would only make sense to sign a playmaker rather than a box to box ‘runner’ type of player, with Wijnaldum, Henderson, Milner, Chamberlain and Keita all capable of performing in that role.
Rennes want £18million for Bourigeaud but it’s highly unlikely they’ll get that from Liverpool.
