Real Betis want to sign Divock Origi this summer, as per Estadio Sportivo, and if true, there’s a slim chance that he could be used a makeweight in a deal to see Junior Firpo join the Reds.
The report names the Belgian forward as one of the ‘pearls’ that the La Liga outfit is tracking and would like to sign this summer and cite his current contract status as cause for Liverpool concern.
The 24-year-old has almost exactly a year remaining on his current terms and although he is in talks with the club over an extension, there is no guarantee that he will renew if he isn’t given more game time.
Selling Origi is not something that Liverpool are heading into this summer transfer window with the intention of doing but if it means that they can land one of their targets perhaps it’s possible.
Supporters would be loathed to see Origi leave but given that he played just 586 minutes last season, his departure could be on the cards if he receives an attractive proposal.
For Liverpool, it could be wise to sell Origi to Real Betis if it puts them in a strong position to sign Junior Firpo and for less than his reported £45million release clause.
Andy Robertson needs competition and someone to operate as his deputy after Alberto Moreno was released upon the expiry of his contract alongside Daniel Sturridge.
Origi will need to fight for his place at Liverpool if he hopes to remain at the club but given the quality ahead of him, the chances of him becoming a regular seem slim to none.
