Stuart Pearce told Sky Sports that he expects Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to become regulars at Anfield next season.

Pearce told Sky Sports [Thursday, May 13th, 13:05]: “They’ve got Gomez to come back, who I expect if he’s fully fit to play every game, and him and Van Dijk at the heart of defence would be sensational.

“And Oxlade-Chamberlain, so they’ve got two players to come back into the fold. They might not have to go in the transfer market, I think those two will improve the team drastically.”

Both players have had their struggles with injury recently, with Joe Gomez missing most of last season with a leg fracture while Chamberlain only recently returned to fitness after an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

The former had formed a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence before he was struck down at Turf Moor in December.

Chamberlain, however, was the club’s best central midfielder on the way to Kiev last season and was cruelly ruled out of the final where Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.

Not only are both expected to be regulars next season, but their presence will also greatly improve the strength of the squad options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have never had a squad this strong during the Premier League era and the hope for fans will be that before this talented group of players disbands is that they win the title at least once.

Hopefully the first of many will arrive in May next year.
