Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Neil Mellor said that after this season Divock Origi will be desperate to stay at the club.
He said: “Klopp brought him on against Everton at Anfield with six minutes to go and he scored the winner in the 96th minute. Look what has happened since.
“He came on to score the winner at Newcastle, netted twice in the 4-0 semi-final comeback against Barcelona and has now scored for Liverpool in a Champions League final victory.
“He will have seen, while out on loan, that it’s not great when you leave Liverpool so has proved he is desperate to stay here. That has been reflected in the big moments he’s had.”
After starting last season on the bench, things looked really bleak for Origi and he didn’t make his first Premier League appearance until he scored the winner against Everton.
Scoring that goal in the 96th minute gave him belief and ignited his form for the rest of the season.
The Belgian only seemed to score important goals this season, including the winner in a Champions League semi-final and the strike in the final that put the tie to bed.
There have been reports this month indicating that Origi will be rewarded with a new contract and hopefully he accepts the new deal and stays at Anfield.
