Liverpool fans have responded to quotes from Philippe Coutinho as the Brazilian told Marca that he has not had a good year with the Catalonians.

He said: “I have not had a good season. My performances have been a lot worse than I expected they would.

“The only way to improve and gain confidence is through hard work, and I have been working hard.”

The former Inter Milan midfielder was the best player at the club before he joined Barcelona in January last year but his fortunes have changed hugely in the time since he left the club.

He has endured Barcelona fans’ ire as he has struggled to replicate his form at Camp Nou.

Having just come off a Champions League triumph, Liverpool supporters were quick to comment on Coutinho’s decision to leave in 2018.

Coutinho is yet to be replaced by Jurgen Klopp but Liverpool have not been missing the Brazilian too much and having won the Champions League after his departure, the boss and FSG will feel justified in selling the midfielder.

The £105m that the Reds pocketed after his sale was used to sign Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, the most influential players during Liverpool’s historic run to the Champions League final in Madrid.
