Liverpool have agreed a £70 million fee with Lille for the transfer of Nicolas Pepe, according to L’Equipe, and some supporters are overjoyed.
The French newspaper claims that Inter Milan have been outbid after their £60m offer was left in the wake of Liverpool’s €80m bid (£70.9m).
The winger was involved in 34 goals this season and would inject some much needed quality into Liverpool’s bench as the likes of Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge offered little to the Reds.
The only issue his move to Anfield might run into would be that he would not be able to enjoy a full pre-season programme ahead of his first season at the club due to his scheduled involvement at the AFCON this summer.
That, however, will not distract supporters too much from the fact that they might be signing a top, top player this summer.
Here is how they’ve reacted on Twitter.

Fantastic, he’s absolutely quality from what I’ve seen and is exactly what we need from a player fighting to start in wide forward position

I’d like him at LFC but he would have to improve to get near the first XI. Very one footed, albeit his left foot is great and he’s got great balance for a winger but his price tag is heavy for player that’s not as multi functional as others. Unless Salah is playing CF next season

L’Equipe reports Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Nicolas Pepe for around €80M. I have doubts about this one. Best to wait before getting excited.

It might be an expensive transfer to sanction but it points towards faultless running of the club.
If one of Mane or Salah were to leave, Liverpool would have a readymade replacement waiting in the wings. If they both stay, then Pepe can serve as a top class backup.
That, or Klopp can go all out and play three of the fastest players in the game alongside one another.
