Jurgen Klopp won the Champions League for the first time on Saturday and will now enjoy a short break before pre-season starts again in July but the work behind the scenes has already started.
The German will have sporting director Michael Edwards and his team of data analysts working hard in the hopes they can sign the players that they believe to be best suited to winning silverware for the Reds.
Voetbal Primeur reports that Liverpool boss Klopp is a big admirer of van de Beek and would be keen to sign him as he aims to further strengthen his side ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The Dutchman, according to Le Parisien, is available for around £49million after he proved his worth in white and red this season and he is the perfect box to box midfielder for Klopp’s style.
Stats from Whoscored.com show that he scored 16 goals and 12 assists this season which is more than any midfielder at Anfield and while he did score the majority of his goals in the Eredivisie, he was involved in five Champions League goals.
His most notable strikes came against Juventus and Tottenham as he helped his side reach the semi-final of the tournament and should have helped them to the final but his side fell apart defensively against the Londoners.
Unless he’s going to start, spending £49m doesn’t seem like the wisest way to spend this summer’s transfer budget as Klopp is already blessed with a wealth of talent.
