Don Hutchison told BBC Radio 5 Live that the Reds should sign Timo Werner and Goncalo Guedes this summer.

He said: “I would go for Timo Werner at RB Leipzig. It’s only a matter of time before Bayern Munich try and buy him. He’s the right age, he’s 23.

“Another one is Gonzalo Guedes at Valencia. He’d be good for them. I could see him in a Liverpool shirt.”

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Timo Werner for some time and he would be the perfect backup option for Roberto Firmino even if Divock Origi has proven that he is a quality reserve striker.

Werner scored 21 goals and provided 7 assists this season, averaging a goal contribution every 114 minutes which is slightly higher than Mohamed Salah’s rate of a goal or assist every 112 minutes.

Funnily enough, Origi has contributed directly to a goal every 73 minutes.

Hutchison also mentions that he thinks that Guedes would be a good fit at Liverpool but the forward doesn’t have that X-Factor that would be enough to earn him a role at Anfield.

For example, Xherdan Shaqiri, who has been the fringes this season, has scored and assisted four goals more than Guedes despite playing 600 minutes fewer.
