Sir Alex Ferguson told Jamie Carragher in 2017 that he believed Jurgen Klopp was going to be the man to put Liverpool back on the perch Manchester United knocked them off.

Carragher writes for the Telegraph: “I can recall the moment when I became genuinely excited about what Jurgen Klopp would bring to Liverpool.

“‘He’s got something about him. He is very confident,’ Sir Alex told me. There was look of genuine admiration for Klopp, accompanied by that added hint of concern telling me all I needed.

“’If Fergie is worried, this guy must be the real deal,’ I thought.”

Carragher goes on to write that Ferguson intimated to him that he had real concern about what Klopp might achieve with Liverpool and on Saturday, his fears were realised.

Klopp won the Champions League for the first time with the Reds and while that might be frustrating on its own, the fact that Liverpool aren’t showing signs of slowing down and that Manchester United are in a trophy rut will seriously irk Fergie.

The Reds will spend money improving their team once again and will look to go out and win big again next season and are almost certain to win something if their current trajectory is anything to go by.

They came so close this season but fell a solitary point short as they finished on an incredible 97 points.
