Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing David Neres from Ajax Amsterdam but, according to AS, will be rivalled for his signature by Atletico Madrid.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a quality multi-functional forward as Daniel Sturridge is set to leave the club this summer.
The Echo reported this week that the German will not be signing players that will come with big price tags unless they are guaranteed starters.
This rules out their interest in Matthijs de Ligt and seemingly 90% of their reported targets, but the Reds should still make a move for Neres.
The winger, who the Daily Mail reports will cost around £45million, is one of the ideal attacking targets for Liverpool, with the Ajax star still very young at just 22 years of age.
Le10Sport claimed last month that Neres is of interest to the Reds and it’s easy to see why.
He fits the bill in terms of talent, age and potential. Klopp has favoured moves for younger players or stars that are verging on entering into their prime years as footballers.
While Neres might be the ideal target on paper, signing him certainly won’t be a cakewalk, with Atletico Madrid now one of the many clubs interested in recruiting him, AS reports.
Missing out on Neres wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world as the market is currently saturated with talented attackers looking to relocate this summer, with Memphis Depay and Nicolas Pepe among those tipped for moves abroad.
