Liverpool are targeting “a summer of evolution, not revolution”, Goal reports, with Jurgen Klopp potentially ready to sell 16 players.
Since he arrived at the club, the German has improved his side every year as he used clever and cost-effective recruitment to go from a struggling mid-table team to verging on becoming European Champions.
Last summer saw the biggest shift as the Reds ended the 17/18 season with a fourth-placed finish and a Champions League final place while the 18/19 season saw Liverpool accumulate 97 points and reach the final once again.
Klopp’s side could still win the Champions League this season and yet for many on social media, the focus in recent days has been about the kind of recruitment the Anfield outfit will be targetting.
A report from Goal claims that Klopp is not aiming to bring in too many players this summer and is not set on spending huge amounts of money to tweak the squad.
Instead, it could see a mass exodus as the report names 16 players that could leave the club*, with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Simon Mignolet, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge all tipped for summer exits.
Shaqiri being named on this list is the most surprising inclusion but the Swiss international is reportedly not in line with what Klopp wants tactically which is why the former Stoke City man played so little football in 2019.
Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze is on the Reds’ radar and represents a bargain for Klopp as he is still relatively raw despite breaking through for the Spanish outfit.
The key takeaway from Goal’s report is that Liverpool are looking to sell all of its dead wood but are not willing to spend big on players they feel are not guaranteed starters.
*Potential outs: Moreno, Mignolet, Clyne, Masterson, Whelan, Grujic, Ejaria, Jones, Lallana, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Wilson, Kent, Ojo, Woodburn, Camacho.
