Liverpool told Real Madrid that they would only sell Sadio Mane for £175m which president Florentino Perez rejected, according to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda.
While Mohamed Salah’s numbers for the 2018/19 season were better than his, Sadio Mane really stepped up this season and was Liverpool’s best player for most of 2019.
The Senegal international scored 11 goals in 11 games between mid-January and late March to keep Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes alive while Salah and Roberto Firmino struggled for form.
The Express reports that Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda has said: “Zidane has differences with Thibaut Courtois, having wanted to continue with Keylor.
“Pogba is closer than we think and Mane, Liverpool have asked 200 million euros (£175m) and Florentino has said no.”
While he is not as good as Eden Hazard or Neymar, Mane is a crucial player for Jurgen Klopp and is likely worth more than £175m to the German.
The Champions League final against Tottenham beckons and Mane will be desperate to follow up his goal in last season’s UEFA showpiece with a more decisive strike.
The Senegalese forward scored an equaliser against Los Blancos in Kiev but two terrible mistakes from Loris Karius prevented the Reds from having any chance at winning the game.
Mane scored two goals on the final day of the season against Wolves and should be in frightening mood at the Wanda Metropolitano next month.
