Liverpool fans have reacted to a report from the Echo which has claimed that the Reds will not pursue a summer transfer for Ajax starlet Matthijs de Ligt.
The Echo claims that Liverpool “have no plans to make a move for the £65m-rated” Dutch defender.
After a stunning breakout season where he captained his Ajax team to the semi-finals of the Champions League, clubs across Europe are desperate to sign de Ligt.
His pace and strength are incredible while his maturity does not reflect his inexperience at the top level.
At just 19 years of age, de Ligt is very much the best defensive prospect in the world at the moment and will certainly be the best defender in the world in several years.
Whoever signs him essentially provides for themselves a foundation to build a world-class team. Liverpool fans have reacted to the bombshell that James Pearce dropped on Monday.
James Pearce kills the De Ligt dream.

Echo stating we have no interest in De Ligt…
That’s either because we’ve lost out on him or we are nearing an advanced stage. #LFC

Personally I don't think Liverpool will sign De Ligt.
Klopp has too much faith in Joe Gomez. Matip was available at the start of the season but he opted for a 21 year old to play his first season as a CB in PL.
Unpopular opinion: Gomez has just as much potential as De Ligt. pic.twitter.com/BLODC5VkwK

My worry with not signing De Ligt is not Gomez’s ability.
He’s on par with if not better than De Ligt. But his fitness issues scare me.
Yes some have been impact injuries, but most (3/5) have not.

The only CB’s I want next season.

De Ligt would’ve been a luxury signing regardless, not a priority. He’s a world class talent and will become one of the best defenders itw, but we have Joe Gomez who almost has the same potential despite injury issues and Joel Matip.

Not signing de Ligt is not the end of the world even if it would enable Klopp to build one of the best defences in Europe for both the short and the long term.
Joe Gomez has the potential to be as good if not better than de Ligt, but first he needs to overcome his injury problems before he can truly kick on.
If Klopp isn’t interested in signing a centre back as the Echo claims, it’s will be interesting to find out if that is because he is planning on investing his funds elsewhere.
