Adam Lallana wants to return to Southampton this summer as he seeks to take advantage of his few remaining playing years, the Express reports.
The 31-year-old has missed almost as many days as Daniel Sturridge has through injury while at Liverpool, making it very difficult to ever really kick on at Anfield.
There was a period for about six months during the 2016/17 season when the Englishman avoided major injury and was the best player for both Liverpool and the England national team.
A lot like Sturridge, however, Lallana always seems to get injured right before he is about to be given a chance in the side and is now deemed untrustworthy as a result.
The Express reports that the former Southampton skipper is ready to make a return to the Saints this summer as he eyes a return to playing regularly.
Given the high level of expectation at Anfield these days, Lallana is unlikely to ever play regularly for the Reds and might have already played his last game for Liverpool.
With Lallana destined to leave the club this summer, Jurgen Klopp’s need to sign a new no.10 will be further highlighted and there are several players that the German could target.
Julian Brandt, Kai Havertz, Houssem Aouar, Nabil Fekir, Philippe Coutinho and Hakim Ziyech are all players that Liverpool would be much better with in their ranks.
The latter presents the best value for money as he reportedly has a £25million release clause in his contract.
Signing the silky Moroccan for £25m would go down as one of the best bargains under Klopp’s reign.
His ability to unlock defences with pinpoint passes is something that is missing from Liverpool’s midfield and would mean that their fullbacks wouldn’t need to shoulder the burden of creating goalscoring chances on their own.
