Transfer expert Ian McGarry has told the Transfer Window Podcast that a striker is needed at Anfield and interest in Timo Werner has increased.
Every Liverpool fan, pundit or past player has their own view on who Klopp should be targeting this summer.
The Reds had the best defence in the Premier League and conceded just 22 goals while they had the second best attack, scoring 89 goals in 38 appearances.
It’s clear to see that it will take astronomical spending to upgrade the team on the whole.
Signing a few quality players to reinforce the bench and perhaps one or two established stars to improve the starting XI would do the trick.
Ian McGarry believes Werner is required at Anfield next season and told the Transfer Window Podcast: “I still believe the glaring deficiency in this Liverpool team is an out-and-out striker who scores 20-plus goals in a season.
“Clearly if they had that they would have won the Premier League this season because they would have outscored and outpointed Manchester City.
“We mentioned a few weeks ago on the podcast that they have an interest in Timo Werner at RB Leipzig and that interest has increased I’m led to believe in the last two weeks.”
While Werner would improve Liverpool’s team whether he was used from the bench as part of the starting XI, given that Klopp’s front three scored 56 league goals, hitting the back of the net is not an issue.
In a season where Liverpool won 97-points, it’s extremely difficult to pinpoint an area of the squad that is blatantly lacking.
Instead, the Merseysiders need more luck if they are going to overcome one of the best sides in the history of the Premier League.
