Barcelona are worried that they might lose Matthijs de Ligt to the Reds as the Dutch youngster is keen to play with compatriot Virgil van Dijk, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Liverpool overcame Barcelona at Anfield last week and booked their place in the Champions League final by beating Lionel Messi and co. 4-3 on aggregate.

The Merseyside outfit can now win silverware if they take their chances against Spurs at the Wanda Metropolitano on 1 June.

What it could also result in is added pull in the transfer market with the Reds’ prime targets more likely to choose Jurgen Klopp over other managers.

Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona are fearful that they could be struck with another hammer blow by Liverpool as they grow concerned that Liverpool will be tempted to move for de Ligt.

In van Dijk, they already have the world’s finest central defender and if they signed de Ligt, they would have his successor.

With Ajax Amsterdam this season, de Ligt proved to the world that age is just a number in football and that he is ready to sign with a top European outfit that can match his ambition.

Liverpool are one of the few sides that are as ambitious as he is and can aid his development immediately.

The likes of  Barcelona and Manchester United all have significant pull but are in the process of redeveloping and therefore are prone to missing out on their biggest targets.

Klopp himself has sent a message to the world of football, shouting from the rooftops that he is as good as any manager and that his side is as good as any out there.

Winning the Champions League final will be confirmation of what Liverpool and its fans already know.

They’re one of, if not the best side in Europe at the moment and aren’t going anywhere in a hurry.
