Liverpool legend Steve Nicol wants his former side to make a move to sign Leicester City playmaker James Maddison this summer, reports the Express.
The Foxes only signed Maddison from Norwich City last summer and given his importance to the success of Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the future, he is virtually unobtainable at the moment.
Of course, money does talk.
Steve Nicol said: “Klopp’s recent three in the middle of the park for Liverpool has been about gaining possession back, about closing the opposition back, about working really hard and then getting the ball to the front three.
“I would love to see a little change in that with somebody like Maddison, who no question has already shown in the Premier League, from the middle of the park, he can open defences up, he can create chances.
“I think this would be a great signing.”
Maddison has been involved in 14 Premier League goals this season which is far more than any other Liverpool midfielder.
His set-piece strength alongside his silky style of play would certainly make him an attractive option for Jurgen Klopp to consider.
Liverpool’s midfield has come on in leaps and bounds this season and would certainly be improved by someone like Maddison.
But with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to be fit for the start of next season, there’s no guarantee Maddison would even be a starter.
Klopp’s priority this summer is unlikely to be signing a new midfielder as he needs to add squad depth in several key areas. But you still wouldn’t find many fans that would be upset if he decided to sign Maddison.
