Fabinho turned in one of the best individual performances from a Liverpool player ever, pocketing Lionel Messi in the biggest game of his entire life.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Liverpool just days after the Reds lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last season and has repaid his £43million fee by helping his new team make it to another UEFA showpiece.

Despite picking up a yellow card early on in the game, Fabinho’s performance levels did not suffer and he kept Messi quiet all game.

For so long, Liverpool were missing a top class goalkeeper, centre back, defensive midfielder and forward but now Klopp has all of these and some.

As a collective, this is already the best ever Premier League team to play in Merseyside Red and it seems like they are only going to get better and better as time goes on.

Klopp is certain to make more signings this summer to add to the feel-good factor and to increase the quality available to him.

If Liverpool go on to win the Champions League it will undoubtedly go down as one of the best team displays from a side in Europe across the whole tournament.

That said, just as it wouldn’t have been possible without van Dijk or Alisson, Fabinho was crucial at Anfield as he nullified Messi’s otherworldly talents.

In fact, the Brazilian made him look quite ordinary and that’s a statement on its own.
