Luka Jovic could join Real Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic told ZDF, and this comes as a blow to Liverpool’s interest.
The Serbian forward is wanted by clubs right across Europe after scoring 25 goals in all competitions for Frankfurt this season.
Eintracht director Bobic told ZDF: “There’s a real possibility that Jovic signs for Real Madrid.
“I hope and want him to stay here at Eintracht, but I’m also realistic and know that if a big club like Real Madrid want him then we haven’t got a chance of keeping him.”
Liverpool are in the market for a new versatile forward but will need to focus their attention elsewhere as it seems pretty clear that Jovic is heading to one of Barcelona or Real Madrid.
While this might seem like a damaging blow, there are plenty of young, talented forwards that should be available this summer.
For instance, Nicolas Pepe, David Neres and Callum Hudson-Odoi could all be available at the end of the season.
Whoever Klopp does sign will need to accept a squad role at first as there are currently only a few players in the world that could usurp Mane, Salah and Firmino.
The trio has scored over 60 goals this season after scoring nearly 100 last season and are within touching distance of winning silverware together for the first time.
The Reds are top of the Premier League by two points and will face Barcelona in the semifinals of the Champions League next week.
Recent form suggests that the Reds will progress as Klopp’s side has won its last nine games in all competitions and has not lost in their last 18 fixtures.
Of course, Barcelona are in good form themselves having not lost for 21 games.
They will find, however, that Liverpool will not be as easily beaten as Manchester United were in the quarterfinals.
