Lille club president Gerard Lopez has told Telefoot that he believes multiple players will leave the club this summer, including Reds target Nicolas Pepe.
The 23-year-old forward has been linked with a move to Anfield by French news outlet le10Sport, who claim the Reds are in contact with Lille over a move.
Now, club president Gerard Lopez has told Telefoot: “Four or five players will be leaving this summer.
“All clubs are forced to balance their accounts except perhaps one. I would say yes, it is sure he [Pepe] will leave.
“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”
The Lille star has a similar running style to Wilfried Zaha and is very good at using his 6ft frame to hold off defenders.
While he doesn’t exactly bully his way past defenders, there is an element of raw power in the way he takes on opposition players.
He would need to refine his play style in order to be successful in the Premier League, but under Klopp he would have one of the best managers in terms of managing raw ability.
It must be said, however, that with 20 goals and 11 assists for Lille this season, there is a lot more for Klopp to manage than just raw talent.
Pepe approaches attacking situations with an audacity that would see him become a success at Liverpool if Michael Edwards was able to negotiate a deal to take him to Anfield.
Last month, Lopez declared that it would take at least €50million (£43.2m) to sign Pepe.
Given his age and potential, that seems like a fair price but the Lille president say it could also take as much as €80million (£69m) to acquire his services.
Given the brilliant work Michael Edwards has done in the past, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Liverpool sporting director agree a very reasonable fee for Pepe to move to Anfield.
