Georginio Wijnaldum teased Liverpool fans with a tweet on Monday evening that said he was off to watch Lyon star Memphis Depay.
The Dutch forward is a player that, despite his Manchester United past, Liverpool fans have been vocal in the past about wanting to sign
It’s not hard to see why either. Since the start of last season, Depay has scored and assisted 58 goals. For reference, Mo Salah has contributed to a whopping 88 strikes since he joined Liverpool.
Where exactly Depay would fit in is a mystery but his talent and defiant arrogance would certainly be welcome at Anfield.
On Twitter, Wijnaldum teased Liverpool fans with a couple pictures of him on an airstrip.
He accompanied the snaps with a teasing caption that read: “On my way to visit my brother @Memphis.”
Predictably, fans replied to the tweet with excitement, with some jokingly suggesting that Wijnaldum’s tweet and Depay’s subsequent reply are proof that the Lyon forward is on his way to Liverpool.

Depay is a left-sided forwarded and although he would certainly be a player that could add quality to Liverpool’s front line, Sadio Mane has shown this season that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t need to sign a new left winger.
The former Southampton man could do with competition to bring the best out of him all season long but Depay is definitely not someone that would accept a bit-part role.
His contract does expire in two years’ time so it wouldn’t cost too much to sign him but unless he was going to start, it wouldn’t make sense to go out and bring him to the club this summer.
