Joe Gomez could feature against Porto in the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League quarterfinal, Jurgen Klopp told the official club website.
Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana are also fit. The latter is unlikely to feature but it’s always good to have as many players fit as possible.
“Absolutely [he looks strong],” explained the manager of Gomez. “He played right full-back, we need him as this option as well.
“We all know he played a wonderful season at the centre-half position until his injury, but he can play both and it’s good to have him.”
The Englishman has been out for almost five months with a leg fracture but is closing in on a return.
If he gets the chance to play against Porto it will be a great chance to rest Joel Matip for the Premier League games to come, while also allowing the young defender the chance to get some much needed minutes under his belt.
Before he suffered his horrible leg injury, Gomez was one of the best defenders in the Premier League, using his brilliant pace and acceleration to keep up with the quickest forwards in the league.
Luckily, the injury he sustained is unlikely to affect his pace as it was a bone issue.
Klopp will be keen to see Gomez regain match fitness before the end of the season.
The hope will be that the 21-year-old can end the campaign on a high and return for pre-season hyped up and ready to go.
