Sadio Mane told the Mirror that there is still “a lot more” to come from Naby Keita after the best week of the Guinean’s Anfield career so far.
The dynamic midfielder scored two goals in two appearances over the last week and appears to have ‘arrived.’ Football fans can be quite fickle but the support for Keita has been constant since he arrived at Liverpool.
His £52million fee (BBC) and the year spent waiting to see him sign for the club meant that fans were desperate to see him in action. Ample time was spent watching his highlights on YouTube but now he is finally showing the form that earned him a move to Liverpool.
“The real Naby is coming still. We have more to see from him,” Mane told the Mirror.
“Naby is a big boy so he knows how football can work, and sometimes not. So he is very positive and he knows he can do more.
“I am sure he can do more. We have a lot more to see from him and I am sure we will see it. I know him very well and there is more to come.”
Keita has the potential to be a genuinely world class midfielder if he can bring his quality to the fore on a consistent basis. There’s a reason he was handed Steven Gerrard’s no.8 jersey by the man himself when he joined the Reds.
With Klopp seemingly set to give him an extended run in the side until the end of the season, fans will finally be able to watch him regularly.
Keita will be up against arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world on Sunday when Chelsea visit Anfield. Of course, Maurizio Sarri doesn’t deploy N’Golo Kante as a no.6 but instead uses his energy and pace as a no.8 but the Guinean will relish the challenge.
A win will see Liverpool go into their final four games of the season at the top of the Premier League table.
